Anodising is an electrochemical process that converts the surface of aluminium into an absorbant. The aluminium surface already has a naturally visible protective layer, which is absorbant, transparent, brittle and very thin. The new protective layer that anodising creates, is much thicker and stronger than the natural one. After anodising this surface is clear, protected and can be dyed if desired.
